Canadian Language Sector Enhancement Program (CLSEP) Scholarships – School of Translation and Interpretation (STI)
The aim of the scholarships is to attract and retain students in translation programs. The focus is primarily on the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and the Master in Conference Interpreting (MIC).
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- All recipients must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (condition set by CLSEP program).
General process
- Files of all students will be assessed automatically at the end of each semester once the final marks are in. There is no need to “apply”.
- Students must achieve a specified minimum average in their translation courses to qualify (the required average differs from program to program)
- This is determined by the Sessional Diplomation Grade Point Average (SDGPA).
- Students who qualify will be contacted via their University of Ottawa email account with instructions and a Translation Scholarship Agreement Form.
- Students who qualify need to sign and return the Translation Scholarship Agreement Form to the STI by a specified date in order to receive their payment.
- Payments will be made following the semester in which a student qualifies (i.e., for students qualifying in the Fall semester, payments will be made the following spring; for the Winter semester, payments will be made the following summer).
Program-specific criteria
1) Regular BA (3 yrs)
- 2nd, 3rd and 4th year students are eligible.
- must have a certain average in their translation courses (SDGPA) for a given semester.
- installments will be paid twice a year: in March (for the previous Fall semester) and July/August (for the previous Winter semester).
2) Accelerated BA (2 yrs)
- students in 3rd year (i.e., in their first year of the program) and 4th year are eligible.
- must have a certain average in their translation courses (SDGPA) for a given semester.
- installments will be paid twice each year: in March (for the previous Fall semester) and July/August (for the previous Winter semester).
3) Master in Conference Interpreting (MIC)
- must have a certain average in their required courses (SDGPA) for a given semester.
- installments will be paid for the three academic sessions.
4) Qualifying Year Students
- must have a certain average in their translation courses (SDGPA) for a given semester.
- installments will be paid twice each year: in March (for the previous fall semester) and July/August (for the previous winter semester).
Part-time students
- must meet the criteria of the program in which they are registered.
- amount will be pro-rated to the number of courses taken.
